A Final Blog Post and Call to Arms

Dear Faithless Readers,

As was obvious by my absence, I have drifted away from my blog.  The horrific realities of our current political state have supplanted my religious aversion and activism. While I'll forever hold my atheist and anti-theism position, it pales in comparison to the political threat at hand.  Therefore, for the foreseeable future I bid you all adieu, and implore you to keep resisting both religious incursions into our freedom, and the destruction of our nation by oligarchs and traitors from within.

Thank you for your readership, your comments, your insights and friendships.

I leave you with this one last thought:

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.

For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
- Cicero,  Roman Statesman 42 CE

Your faithless servant,
Dromedary Hump

I feel much the same way, atheists of the progressive/liberal variety need to make common cause with the liberal Christians, etc.

Fair thee well Hump. Well met sir, well met. Always a pleasure, and never ever a disappointment.

You have been a fearless and formidable opponent to religious stupidity, I wish you well fighting the political absurdity that has spread across your nation like the plague.

Good luck in all your future endeavors. Your blog has always brought a smile to my atheist face. Let's hope common sense and critical thinking survive the crazy wave America is riding on. From Canada, "EH."

When I discovered your blog, it was if for the first time, I had a friend who thought as I did! It was amazing with my religious upbringing and teachings that never ever took hold, you were intelligent and put your words out there for like minded people. Seriously, you were my connection to the reality in which we live. Love, intelligence, and connections, the things that help us grow and be whole. Thank you for the exchange of thoughts, thank you for your writing and honesty. You will be missed but never forgotten. Love and best wishes from a friend.

Farewell Bart,

As you have stated, times and priorities have and will always change. I have enjoyed your insights since the MSN chat\Iron Chariots\Pet Rescue days.

Stay well and continue to fight the good fight, especially now that we have the most unfit POTUS 45.

Best Regards
(Andrew Scott)

P.S. If I ever win the Powerball Grand Prize, I still intend to invite you (and immediate family, all expenses paid) to Seattle to dine at the Space Needle. Just make sure I have a means to contact you :)

It's been an absolute pleasure having a connection to a free-thinker in the US. Thank you for sharing your insights and thoughts.

I wish you all the best in your future endeavours, Bart.

Dearest Hump... your farewell post has made me feel quite emotional, something I didn't expect, but there it is. The line that keeps me going is: "Therefore, for the foreseeable future..." My blog hewdge has been silent because of ill-health, a cancer diagnosis but I'm now free of the pesky tumour. I will never give in. The insanity called organised religion, and those creatures now running the Banana Republic of the United States, will never prevail
When Christopher Hitchens died, it was though a great light went out. Now there are so few voices in the wilderness willing to speak up and speak out. You are one of them. Everywhere around the world, blasphemy laws are tightening (although 'bless' Denmark for repealing theirs recently). We need you. I do hope the Hump can come through the desert of blogging silence. As we all know, Camels are extraordinarily resilient creatures..

I feel a real connection to this blog and its readers, a balm for the anxiety I try to deal with each day since the election. Now what? Here come the tears.

Thank you all for your kind words of support.
It has been my privilege to have shared my thoughts with my like thinking friends and readers.

I wish you all good health, strength, and the determination to keep up the good fight...both secular and political.

Yours in reason,

Dromedary Hump.

Wow. I simply can't think of anything to add to the words of the other commenters. Yes, I've looked here every morning for the past many, many months, and will sorely miss the occasional burst of wisdom from the Hump. Farewell, and fare well.
